The Belize Barrier Reef: After the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Belize Barrier Reef is the second biggest in the world spread over 300 km up to the Yucatan Peninsula. Home to brilliantly coloured corals and a wealth of marine species it is the biggest attraction in the country. It also is very popular with diving enthusiasts and snorkelers visiting its famous Great Blue Hole There are boat excursions further afield to the many islands scattered across the area. The Barrier Reef is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is alright to hitchhike: There is nothing unusual with hitchhiking in Belize as it is a common practice among the locals. It is an effective way to save on travel expenses, which could tot up to a considerable sum in the country. 

Arrive in the off-season: Belize is an expensive tourist destination to visit, so if you want to trim travel expenses arrive in the tourist off-season (October – April). This will get you lower hotel prices and airline fares. 

Opt for the bus instead of the shuttle: If you are looking to cut corners travelling in Belize it is best to use the bus services that are more economical. The shuttle service is comparatively more expensive with an eye on the tourists visiting the country.
