Events To Watch Out For In LA 2021
With spring just around the corner and the national vaccine programme well underway, the next few months are looking brighter in regards to restriction easing than they have at any time in 2020. Many markets, shops and cultural events are beginning to regroup and rebuild, providing tourists and locals with events and excitement as California heads towards the summer.
However, we might still be looking at restrictions for a few months yet. With infection rates still high and virus mutations adding a time sensitivity to the vaccine efforts, you can still expect mask-wearing, social distancing and bans on large public gatherings not only across California but the country too. That hasn’t stopped Los Angeles though, which is still organising COVID-friendly events for tourists and locals to enjoy during their spring months. Accommodation like the Hotel Beverly Terrace provides beautiful rooms in the heart of Hollywood and with extra COVID-protocols keeping tourists safe, LA might not be quite back to normal, but if you squint your eyes just enough, it might start to look like it is!
Below are some of the best upcoming events in LA this coming March and April, gifting visitors with the cinematic experiences and vibrant events that only Hollywood could offer.
Sugar Rush
From the drive-thru creators of Haunt’oween LA and WonderLAnd, Sugar Rush is a candy inspired driving course with branching paths and eye-blindingly photogenic sets. Based in the former Westfield Promenade, Sugar Rush drives you through a COVID-friendly wonderland worthy of even the most demanding of “California Gurls”.
Street Food Cinema
Swapping outdoor cinema for drive-thru experiences during the pandemic, the Street Food Cinema experience has moved to parking lots and road-friendly areas in LA. Visitors to the classic, world-famous movie night need only leave their vehicles to visit the food trucks and restrooms, otherwise, you can sit back and enjoy the show at a range of locations around LA from the comfort of your driver’s seat.
Stranger Things Drive-Into Experience
After the success of international groups such as Secret Cinema, the Stranger Things Drive-Into Experience takes the popular 80s’ nostalgia series and turns it into a drive-thru experience. 24 cars at a time will take an hour-long ride through 80s’ shopping malls, secret Soviet science labs and of course, the terrifying upside-down. This isn’t just a scenery-chewing tour either, actors will perform live, bringing your favourite monsters and characters to life in a literal thrill-ride.
Knotts Taste of Boysenberry Festival
There’s nothing quite like the breakfast diners of Beverly Hills, and this spring the world-famous Knotts Berry Farm is bringing its namesake centre stage for sweet treats and wholesome foodie fun. Whilst the popular family theme park might be closed during the pandemic, the Buena Park attraction will rejig its outdoor amusements to become a huge food festival between March and May this year, all celebrating the farm’s famous Boysenberry in a dizzying array of creative concoctions.
First Fridays At The Natural History Museum
Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic might have barred events like the Natural History Museum’s First-Friday of the month events, the Exposition Boulevard-based tourist hotspot has moved it’s monthly events online for the foreseeable. Expect Zoom webinars with historians and a much needed YouTube dance party to welcome in the socially distanced weekend.
